By His Virtue

Luke 8:46 And Jesus said, Somebody hath touched me: for I perceive that virtue is gone out of me.

In Jesus, we have an abundant supply of virtue for every need. He is the source of all goodness, strength, and power. We can do nothing on our own of any value, without first drawing from His endless wellsprings of goodness.

Acts 17:28 For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring.

Until we fully believe this and surrender our lives completely to God, knowing that all power of righteousness is provided for us and comes to us directly from Him, we can never rest or have any comfort in our Christian lives. We can never experience that peace that passes all understanding unless we truly trust Him to lead us beside still waters and to give us rest in green pastures.

So many say that they believe this to be true and confess in a sort of pious way all the goodness that is to be found in God but are still miserable and full of care and anxiety in their lives. Many even ask the Lord for strength or patience for whatever need arises in their life without actually believing Him to give it to them. They immediately rise from their knees only to still be full of care and not to expect to receive what they just prayed for. The woman with the issue had faith. She believed that Jesus had the power to heal her and she went to Him believing that she would receive His healing and believing that He was good, and she received it.

Do you have any idea of the extent of the goodness and blessings you could receive from God if you would just have more faith? If you would just start believing Him when He says that He is good? How it would grieve our earthly parents if we should ask them for something we needed without actually trusting them to be good, or thinking that we would receive it.

Matthew 7:8-11 For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone? Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent? If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?

How great is your God? How great do you believe Him to be? How much of your daily life is spent relying on His goodness and righteousness; drawing from it and living by it? We should believe that His supply of strength is there, not focusing on our own power of believing or whether or not we believed hard enough, but because whether or not we believe it, it is still there because He says it is! All the strength, righteousness, patience, mercy, and virtue we could ever think to ask for, is there. That is why we can have such joy in Him even amid the greatest hardships and peace in such abundance. “O taste and see that He is good!”

James 1:5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. [6] But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.
