An evil Satanic spirit is one of drama, hysteria, accusation, confusion and bitterness. A spirit of
God will always be of love, order, power and a sound mind. A Satanic spirit will lead those who
get caught up in it to destruction.
It can be easy for women especially, to get caught up in drama and fear and to lead their
families down a path of destruction, all the time thinking they do well and that God agrees with
their inflamed emotions. Women do well not to become afraid with amazement, and to keep
their focus on serving and building. The foolish woman tears her house down with her own
hands (Proverbs 14:1). Many times this spirit begins with selfishness and idleness as do many
other sins. If you are busy doing the work of the Lord, you won’t have time to become bitter. If
you are constantly thinking of who you can be a blessing to next, you won’t have time for a root
of hatred to spring up.
For the person who is busy about the work of the Lord, in your love for others, giving ear to the
voice of that spirit will be a temptation, and is a sin. Shut those conversations down or turn them
back to the bitter person’s duty of service or their spirit WILL spread to you.
Hebrews 12:14-15 Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the
Lord: [15] Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness
springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled;
All it takes is the smallest root of bitterness or envy to start this downward spiral into destruction
and sin. When a root of bitterness springs up and is not immediately rooted out, MANY are
defiled. Some might not ever have become bitter in and of themselves, but all it takes is a little
time around the deceptive spirit of a bitter person. All it takes is one sister or brother to spread
the spirit around. People are always careful about not getting illnesses from others, but don’t
even give a single thought to catching a spirit of bitterness that will destroy lives and spread to
so many.
A bitter spirit can begin from idleness, selfishness, envy, or conviction. It can be directed
towards God, a leader of any kind, especially a Christian leader, a brother or sister in Christ, a
husband, father, mother, pastor, teacher, a church, or anyone doing any work for the Lord.
People look for excuses to justify their bitterness and when they can’t find them, they create
them. Often the person with the bitter spirit actually has the sin they falsely accuse another of,
but 10 times worse! They convince themselves that their reasons are valid and justify hating
another brother or sister in Christ. At the bottom of their supposed cause for hysteria, they never
truly have a case at all, or it is blown way out of proportion and doesn’t justify their actions. They
never care about facts, but the rebellion is built on emotion and supposition and there is nothing
there to stand on.
Sadly, friends of a bitter person will often go along with the schism even if they don’t believe his
or her cause, merely for the sake of the friendship or because they look up to the person with
the bitter spirit in some way. The spirit also becomes so strong that some become afraid to dare
question or go against it and have that spirit of hatred then directed at them.
This spirit turns brothers and sisters in Christ against each other to destroy those who are the
objects of their bitterness. It can become so strong and evil that people would kill each other if
given the opportunity and have done so all throughout history. They even think that they do God
service, and that he agrees with their out of control emotions. No one is considered more evil or
hated more than the victim of a bitter person’s bitterness.
Friends, never let yourself become bitter against the Lord or any of His servants. Always be on
the lookout for a bitter spirit. It will never appear to you as a bitter spirit unless you are aware,
praying and watching! It will appear as an urgent cause, with fear and hysteria seeking to
convince you that you have to act now in your case or your attack on the object of your
bitterness. A spirit that is led by God is not a rushing spirit of confusion, but a slow and prayerful
one with power and love and full of strength and order.
As a pastor’s daughter for 24 years I have seen so many people get caught in bitter, stubborn
and rebellious spirits and lose all the glory from their lives. It is all a trick of the devil. It is
impossible to grow or move forward in serving the Lord if you have a bitter spirit. Whenever
people begin to spiral down in bitterness they begin to make excuses for sin, and begin on an
endless path of destruction. Bitterness leads to justification of sin, which continues to lead you
further and further into more sin and an endless downward spiral of destruction. I plead with
anyone who has been caught up in a sinful spirit and is losing or has already lost the glory from
your life, not to keep trying to do things your own way, but to repent in humility and turn back to
God. He is able to restore the years the locusts have eaten.
If you are busy about any work of the Lord, bitter people Will come and attack you. Just put your
faith in Jesus and keep on serving and moving forward and let God fight for you. They can
never fully stop a work of the Lord.
